Coronation Street’s Sally Metcalfe’s trial begins as Sophie hatches a plan

Sally Metcalfe’s trial begins tonight, and the courtroom is full of lies as Duncan takes the stand.

It’s the first day, and Sally is upset when she realises Gina and Tim have not arrived.

They eventually arrive as proceedings start, and Duncan takes the stand.

He paints himself as an innocent victim, saying he fell in love with Sally and she coerced him to defraud the council in a shocking set of lies.

But how will Sally cope as her name is bersmirched in the middle of court?

Later, Paula tries to get Sally to remember what she did on her birthday, as Duncan is saying the pair slept together at a hotel.

Kevin remembers Sally spend the evening of her birthday in hospital with Jack, however, so Paula and Sophie set about getting some CCTV footage to prove it.

It looks like it’s going to take days, so Sophie tells Sally to pretend to be ill so they adjourn the case a little longer, giving them time to get the footage.

Meanwhile, Gemma is seething with jealousy when Emma and Chesney go for a run together, but when Spike is arrested after a break-in at the pizza shop, Gemma accuses Chesney of shopping him to the police.

Chesney denies anything has happened, and later he discovers Spike did rob the shop, but it was the owner who reported him.

Also tonight, Phil forces Brian to oversee the school Christmas production in the staff room, which is a mix of Lord of the Rings and Cinderella.

In a thinly veiled threat, Phil tells Brian the production will need to be outstanding to avoid redundancy.

He proudly presents Phil with his plans, but he’s disappointed when Phil tells him there’s been a change and he needs some new ideas.
