Autistic boy, 11, pens moving letter to hero Anne Hegerty: ‘Maybe I can have a cool job too’

An autistic schoolboy has penned a heart-warming letter to his hero Anne Hegerty, revealing her stint on I’m A Celebrity has given him hope for his own future.

Joseph Hughes, 11, from Preston in Lancashire was diagnosed with the developmental disorder aged five, and said his peers are sometimes ‘mean’ to him because of it.

But since watching Anne on The Chase and now in the jungle, he’s realised he can grow up to have a ‘cool job too’.

"I like to watch you on The Chase and now I have been watching you in the jungle," he wrote in a letter shared by his proud mum Kate Jarvis, 31, on Twitter.

"I think you are very brave for going in the jungle, I couldn’t go there because there are too many bugs.

"You are very clever."

Opening up about his own experiences of autism, he continued, "Sometimes people are mean to me because I am autistic but watching you makes me see that other people can have autism too and maybe I can have a cool job like you when I am older."

He also included a present for the star in the form of a very special picture.

"Do you like Thunderbirds? I love them. My favourite is Thunderbird 2. I have drawn you a picture, I hope you like it," he added.

Having had "quite a few struggles, especially socially," Kate said he was in awe of her TV career.
