X Factor fans disgusted by Cheryl’s X-Rated performance and ‘awful’ vocals

Furious X Factor fans were disgusted by Cheryl’s X-Rated performance on tonight’s results show – and not just because of the ‘awful’ vocals.

The former judge returned to the X Factor studio seven years after leaving the hot seat for her first stage performance in four years.

The Geordie singer, 35, may have misjudged her audience for the pre-watershed gig as viewers slammed her for putting on an outrageous display for the family show.

Cheryl, who is mother to baby Bear, started by crawling on the floor while licking her hand in bizarre scenes.

She then started gyrating on stage with a dozen hunky male dancers while singing her new track Love Made Me Do It.

"Cheryl licking her hand tattoo is about as appealing as this performance/song," added another.

A third said: "I just don’t understand? Cheryl? Can she even sing? … bizzaare"

"Not sure if it’s the sound or she just can’t sing, but this sounds bad," said a fourth.

  • X Factor’s Simon Cowell and Louis Tomlinson have blazing argument live on-air

Producers must have been sweating over her performance, which took a lot of inspiration from her sultry music video for the new song.

They will fear a similar backlash to 2010, where performances by Rihanna and Christina Aguilera received thousands of complaints to Ofcom.

The judges seemed impressed and gave her a standing ovation after the performance ended.

There were also claims that Nile Rodgers, who is filling in for Robbie Williams, appeared not to stand up after her performance.

Fans flocked to Twitter in shock, with one tweeting: "Haha Nile Rogers is VERY cool about denying Cheryl a standing ovation – every performance should be judged on its merits after all! #XFactor."

Another commented: "Nile is iconic for not standing up for Cheryl… #Xfactor."

However other fans pointed out that Nile had stood – but had sat down quickly after.

However, Cheryl might feel that a a controversial display could be the remedy for the slow start to her comeback.

it might give her new single, which languished at a lowly number 19 in the charts on its debut, the boost it desperately needs.

Especially as Cheryl has vowed to quit her pop career if there isn’t enough interest in her new solo music.

*X Factor airs tonight on ITV at 8.10pm
