I’m A Celebrity ‘s much-anticipated launch was a huge ratings success as almost 12 million viewers tuned in to watch Holly Willoughby and Declan Donnelly.
These are the highest ratings for the launch show in five years for ITV.
An average of 11 million tuned in to watch the first episode of the series – 51 per cent of the ratings share and up 750,000 from last year.
This meant that it was the biggest overnight rating of 2018 outside of World Cup matches.
Audience ratings peaked at 11.9 million.
The show got off to an explosive start last night as Holly joined Dec for her first ever show Down Under.

Of course, the pair kicked off the series with a cheeky joke about Ant McPartlin’s absence .
The 43-year-old presenter is sitting out this year to focus on his recovery from drink and prescription drug addiction after he was involved in a car crash In March.
Unfortunately, Holly and Dec’s banter, or lack thereof, proved frustrating for fans who said they missed Ant and Dec’s chemistry.
But the drama didn’t end with the presenters themselves – viewers were treated to tears, screaming and a diva fit as the celebs tried to battle their way through the first tasks.
Harry Redknapp admitted that he had never seen the show before – so was very shocked with the conditions of the ‘luxury’ camp – and that there were no bacon sarnies behind the scenes.
Meanwhile The Chase star Anne Hegerty was in tears less than 24 hours into the show.
However hugs from her campmates made the overwhelmed quizzer feel much better.
Finally, viewers voted Emily Atack as their first celebrity to do a bushtucker trial. Which was pretty unsurprising after her endless screaming.
