Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2018 winners: Hamilton takes home top prize

The National Theatre’s Anthony and Cleopatra picked up the two best acting gongs at this year’s Evening Standard Theatre Awards, with Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo picking up Best Actor and Actress respectively.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, two of the biggest musical hits on the West End also picked up two awards apiece; Marianne Elliott crowned Best Director and Rosalie Craig picking up Best Musical Performance for their roles in the gender-flipped version of Stephen Sondheim’s Company.

Hamilton took home the prize for Best Musical with its Alexander Hamilton, Jamael Westman, also taking home the Emerging Talent award.

The Inheritance took the title of Best Play.

Sir Cameron Mackintosh was also honoured at the ceremony for his contribution to musical theatre, as were the hard-working and often under-appreciated dressers who work tirelessly behind the scenes on the West End and beyond.

Here are the winners of the 64th Evening Standard Theatre Awards.
