On screen her Coronation Street character Alya Nazir is no nonsense businesswoman.
But in real life Sair Khan is quite shy and has admitted she fears the other people more than the animals heading into the I’m A Celebrity camp.
Sounding anxious she said: “I’m definitely afraid of the other people more than the creepy crawlies. I’m nervous about who else is going to be in there. I’m nervous I’m not going to make any friends. I’m nervous that there’s going to be people who would are completely different to me and that how are we going to live together, that there is going to be no privacy.

“I think I’m nervous of really opinionated people and really bossy people, people that are overly competitive. And I know that we all have to win stars to eat and don’t get me wrong, that’s absolutely what I want to do, but I feel like I’m the kind of person who needs the carrot, not the stick. If I’m put under loads of pressure I think it will stress me out.”
And Sair, 30, has one more fear that she is really, really worried about – having to strip off for the famous jungle shower. Whilst some stars like Myleene Klass have revelled in it, Sair is less keen and may prefer to smell a bit rather than stripping off in front of millions of viewers back home.
“Oh my God,” She shrieks. “That’s one thing I’m dreading. I’m not one of those people who are like ‘Oh my God, this is my bikini moment’ at all. If anything I’ve been carb loading and packing on the reserves. You definitely won’t be seeing me in a bikini for like the first few weeks, I’m sure, if I make it that far. It will be one pieces for me and I probably will not be facing the camera.
“If I do lose weight I will look my usual self when I come out!”

She doesn’t want to strip off under the jungle shower
Sair admits she wouldn’t have dreamed of appearing on the reality show a few years back. She joined Coronation street early in 2014 having previously worked as a timid receptionist and has grown her confidence on screen since then.
Her role had grown in the last 12 months and she was one of the key character around the suicide death of Aidan Connor(Shayne Ward) earlier this year.
“I think I’m a bit more settled now,” She said.
“I came into Coronation Street at 26. This was my first big telly job, I never had any media training or anything like that, so it was all very new to me and it was quite overwhelming.
“I feel like now I’ve had a taste of this life and I know that it’s not as scary or overwhelming or daunting as I might have thought it was in the beginning. I think that’s probably the biggest change.

“My gut feeling was to say yes to this and one of the reasons why I thought it would be really good for me to do this show is that I haven’t really put myself out there very much as Sair.
“People only really know the character. And so I feel like I’m sort of different from my character. I’m just a bit silly, I don’t take myself too seriously, and I just like to have fun. I think it would be nice to be like the general public in the audience to see me and separate myself from my character a little bit.”
Whether she is crowned Queen of the jungle or not, Sair will return from Australia with a big new Corrie storyline for her character Alya after talks with new producer Iain MacLeod before heading off to take part in the reality show.
She said: “I’ve had chats with Iain and I kind of know a few ideas that he has, but I don’t know which ones he is going to go with. But I’m definitely excited about next year, and I know in particular, I’m going to be quite busy at the beginning of next year so as soon as I finish this it’s going to be pretty hectic for me going back into work.
- I’m A Celebrity in numbers – 230kg of meat, 160,000 bugs and 33 pairs of pants
Sair’s already looking forward to her upcoming Corrie storylines
“Of course I want a meaty storyline, who wouldn’t. Is Alya(her character) going to continue in the same vein? I think there are probably some testing times ahead. I probably shouldn’t say any more than that.”
Another person pleased about Sair’s jungle adventure is her boyfriend, fellow actor Simon Lennon.
She explained: “It’s his favourite programme on telly. Simon’s over the moon he’s like ‘I watch every single series. I know it inside and out’. He is so excited about coming to Australia.”
The pair have been dating since December and met in unusual circumstances.
“We met at Buckingham Palace. We were both members of The National Youth Theatre, and they had like a big gala to celebrate their 60th anniversary. A load of ex members were invited to that evening at Buckingham Palace and so we met through a mutual friend.”
“It was really emotional leaving him but I was like ‘Babe, it’s an amazing adventure. Don’t worry, we are going to see each other in a month’. So, I’m going to miss him but I feel like it’s not like I’m going away forever.”
