Top Ten Mel Gibson movies
Mel Gibson is one of the great entertainers to come out of Hollywood. That he is a bigot, a religious extremist, and probably insane, doesn’t detract from his greatness.
His career is over, which it should be, but his legendary talent can’t be denied. Here are his top ten films. This includes films as an actor and director.
Let me know what you think in the comments below.
10. Conspiracy Theory
Some might say I’m reaching with this one. It is probably not a good movie. It is one of those movies your parents watched a lot when you were young and you can’t help but enjoy.

This person has an agenda. Clear as a bell. We all haven’t been dumbed down. What’s your name anyway.
Yeah. Weirdos…:)
I think that you made a greate choice of movies, but i wouldlike to add some rectifications tho.
The eyar of living dangerously is very internationaly known and had been seen by most and is a very popular movie.
And NO it is NOT a love story but is about the political situation there and therefor too that third person in the movie was so important (the one you didnt like to pretend to be a man…)
Conspiracy theory is an excellent movie with a lot of layhers that you might not be able ot xomprehend.
i dont know what your age is, but go back ot iut later when oyu have wised up a bit with time.
I will have put We Were Soldiers, an undiscutable master piece of acting.
you also forgot the movie TIM who is also beautifull and “Mrs Soffel”.
The Bounty and tequila sunrise are missing tho…
I dont get why you have Ransom but not The Bounty.
All in all good choices but you dont even mention Edge of Darkness, why is that?
Are you aware that Mel Gibson made 3 movies since Apocalypto?
you migth disagree but Mle Gibson made a very memrable performance in Hamlet.
The best interpretation of Shakespear’s Hamlet to this date, in fact.
Apocalypto, Braveheart, and the passion of Christ deserve the first places, but i will have put conspiracy theory after that, folowed by We were soldiers, Gallipoli, The Patriot, Lethal Weapon, Tim, and the bounty.
Lethal weapon, as mad max, lauched a genre in the cop movies that many have tried to copy since.
It is a very special movie who has become a must to see and one who never get old.
All Mel Gibson’s movie are fantastic and genuate as yopu beleive in him totaly nomatter what character he is playing.
he is as talented as can be in th emovie making as well as the acting.
I wil recommand you to rent The River mel gibson in ealry years, Tim, Mrs Soffel, and “summer city”, his first movie.
I do not think he is done.
He is just rehearsing.
But i do beleive that many in holywood were dead jealous of hm, actors for his huge talent that they could never even copy cat, and the producer and directors for his huge tlaent at movie making that surpass them all.
so they used thre “time off” of Mel to try to launch some movies and new talents, and less new talentand try to put them into stardom, but it didnt work at all.
Only Mel Gibson can pull the public as he does and make movies that are so taking.
Mel Gibson isnt a done deal.
He is creazy enough to keep producing in this totaly fced up industry.
and we should thank God for that.
I am so pissed off at the unjust, unfair, untrue, and defamatoric way he was treated by the media and many personalities, that I only go watch a movie if it is Mel Gibson who made it or if he is acting in it.
I am boycotting everyone else.
They should all fall on their knees, kiss his feet, and say sorry for being such lying, hypocrites, jealous, A-holes.
Scuse my very cinematic language.
Without Mel Gibson, there s no 5th Art.
Its time for them to wake up and aknowledge the fact that their faith depend on his.
Thanks for this montage, I enjoyed every piece of it.
You are so wrong dude!
Mel Gibson is more than welcome and several studio were fighting to get him and to get in for his next movie.. among them warner bros!!
and his next movie has already begun to be shooted, about juddha maccabe and the next one is about the viking and will be called “Berserck!”
In case you didnt noticed it Robert Downey Junior made a speech in Mel Gibson’s honnor and defense, very recently, in front of the “all hollywood”, and what he said was applauded and acclaimed by all sitting there.
You see, the problem is not Hollywood, it is the tabloids..
Making up non existing facts and making rumnors being passed as stampled facts.
I have no problem with insanity, as its inherent to his greate artistic genius, but I do disagree with your attribute of bigot and religious extremist on Mel Gibson.
Lets put some facts here my dear:
Mel Gibson was an atheist from he was 17 years old, until 1993,(1973 to 1993) when he came back to religion.
It occured shortly after his mother had died and he was arrested in Canada for DUI.
In 2003 he made the movie the Passion of the Christ, as a thanks to have get out of addiction.
In between he helped his father and builded some churches, who are NOT HIS churches but belong to the church who folow Vatican 1. Meaning the traditional catholicism and their millions of adepts all over the world..
Mel Gibson’s father was the leader of those refusing Vatican 2, in Australia, and they had to have their own church as the vatican dont aknowledge them anymore.
Since Mel Gibson had became rich, he help to fund some of those churches as they have a problem at surviving.
There is one in Virginia too and some other places in USA, who are not funded by Mel Gibson. and most of them emerged in the 70′es alreeady, at a time when Mel Gibson was an atheist.
No, Mel Gibson never had a church in his backyard. Thats a false rumor.
The church has its own priests and diocese, who is partly connected to the official diocese of the Vatican in Rome, and follow the rules that usual catholic followed prior to 1968, and who are in most things identical with what catholics follow today.
When Mel Gibson met Robyn, he was an athesit since years, and when he was married to her, he was an atheist too, and he had most of his kids with her (6 of them out of 7) while he was an atheist.
Only the last child, Thomas, was born after Mel Gibson had turned to God.
So when he was drinking and cheating on her he did so as an atheist.
All that was put to an end when he came back to the faith in Christ, and put his past behind him.
As a gesture of thanks to Jesus and to the church, he made the movie the passion of christ, to symbolise his own internal torture too.
Hallas it was the begining of a long strugle agaisnt bigotic people who perceived his movie as a threat that it wasnt.
So Mel Gibson wasnt a religious person from he was 17 until he was 38 years old.
He is also open to other religions and say that we all follow the same God.
He had in fact a very wild life all his youth and moved away from home when he was 15-16 to live alone, starting by living in the streets.
What you read being depicted of him in the tabloids has nothing to do with whom he is and what he did, and does in his life, and how he think.
He used to go out party and drinking with Patrick Schwayze, and had a lot of fun outdoors with his wife as well.
So the story of them being such bigot couple, is all wrong.
He never forced any of his kids to follow his lead and to go to church either, but let them chose what they wanted to do, and did the same home about everything.
Not for nothing that the neighbourgs’s kids and friends of Mel Gibson’s kids always came to party at the Gibson’s home, cause there they could be free!
I dont know where from you got the idea that Mel Gibson should be a religious extremist, but that sounds odd, and is in complete contradiction with facts.
He isnt the kind of guy that goes to church every sunday, either.
1. I’ve heard about Judah Maccabee and I’ll believe it when I see it….I said foreseeable future. I hope he directs it, that is all I can say.
2. Anyone who makes Passion of the Christ is a religious extremist in a non-believer’s eyes (me).
3. Nobody cares about his life story or your opinion about it. You responded to things I couldn’t give a fuck about and that I never commented on. He is an odd guy…don’t me give his biography because I never asked for it or said anything that isn’t true.
4. I love Mel Gibson and if he can somehow make another movie in the next five years I’m thrilled.
You are wrong to say nobody careabout his life since I care about him and what he did and so do you, or you wont be commenting on it.
Second, you called him a bigot and religious extremist, which needed to be corrected, and i gave you the reasons why. Just admit that you thought that he was a catholic all his life.
Third, You didnt mentioned in your article that you thought this because he made the passion, which I found very odd, as Martin Scorcese also made a movie about jesus.
Does it make Martin Scorcese a religious extremist too, in your eyes, for making a movie about Jesus?
Dont forget that in the 70′es martin Scorcese made “The Last Temptation of Christ, and thats a religious movie as well.
I didnt gave you his biography at all, but only commented on the part concerning the religous thing, to prove my point.
All media, also on Tv, also a media on a cinema chanel supposedly making a bio on Mel Gibson, depicted him as a religious bigot that was going to church everyday and had always been a religious guy..and had his own church and so on.
That has been the picture given of him by all medias for all 2010-11.
It came together with the myth of Mel Gibson being a bigot aka he made the passion of christ, and i wasnt surprised that you had fallen victim of the hetz around him, and of that myth, wether you want to admit it or not.
Many directors made movies about religions, it doesnt make them into bigots.
I dont get why you get so agressive and so imbue of your own predicament of not being a religius person, as if it was a crime or you had to prove something.
I personaly dont care.
And I dont care either of what you ask me to do or not, I dont post here to obey your orders nor am I working for you, nor being on your payroll, and I dont suppose that you expect any commenters posting here to be so.
Maybe you should be more polite and thankfull to people posting here valuable informations, that you will found nowhere else.
There is no bio of Mel Gibson where you will found that info.
But he said it himself in an interview he gave many years ago, and it should desamorce the myth of Mel Gibson the religious bigot.
The reason why he is able to put so much emotion and rage and knowledge in his movies, is because he lived such a wild life and had such a hard time from a very early age, and that count.
Mel Gibson gave interviews in the past 4 weeks where he told about the 2 movies that he is making, and who is in, it and with whom he is making them.
Warner Bros has already signed the contract with Mel Gibson for Juddha Maccabee, so yes its a sure deal.
So your wishes are exhauced since he has already finished the movie “Get the Gringos”*, who is also out in 2 months, on May 3.rd in the US.
*(previously called “How I spend my Summer Vacation”)
I am an atheist and I do not think that Mel Gibson is a religious extremist for making The Passion of Christ. So you are alone with that opinion, who do not involve all atheists’s view of it.
An atheist is what you call a non believer, and is what Mel Gibson was most of his life, and since I presume that you are under 38, then he was like you at your age.
I think that you got offended for very different reasons than those that you dared to expose above..but I am not your shrink, so thats for you to worry about it, and for me to dont even speculate.
Umad?
Why let mental illness define if you can see his movies again? We would not condem the career of a diabetic who had poorly controlledblood sugars. Those rants are such clear examples of manic crisis and may in no way represnt who the man is or what he belives when he is well.(I heard some patinets say things they were horrified by later during mental health clinicals in nursing school.) Working probably held him deal with his illness so people shoudl let the man do what he is good at. It is not just as simple as taking a pill, they do not work well for everyone and his history with alcohol may have effected which ones he can even try as they can be dangerous for your liver. As someone who had worked around people who suffer from mental illness the way people talk about this man as though he chosses this problem or deserves makes me feel awful for him and his family,
I should have been more clear…I don’t care about Gibson’s madness. I can’t see any more of his movies because he won’t be making any new ones. He’s shit out of luck in Hollywood.
If he goes indie he still will have trouble getting his movie buyers.
