Darren Aronofsky and his Noah movie.

I said I wouldn’t blog about Aronofsky rumors anymore, but I’m going to one more time. Vulture reported the following:

Vulture hears that Aronofsky is in talks with Christian Bale about possibly starring in his take on Noah’s Ark, to help secure studio backing for it.

I could care less who is starring in it, but what makes me raise an eyebrow is the 130 million dollar budget mentioned in the article. I’ve been well aware of the Noah movie since I was teenager – I think he started “developing” it even before his movie Pi.

I’m pretty sure I read in the L.A. times that a graphic novel exists of the movie; likely made to give a visualize narrative to financiers.

Moreover, Black Swan might be his “carte blanche”, but I doubt it. That was a fifteen million dollar movie turned into a blockbuster and, with the uncompromising vision that he has, is it better for him to stay around fifty million dollars or less?

I know these are fanboy questions, but I was just hoping he’d get his “big, mainstream movie” and not go for another personal project. Noah certainly sounds like something he’d be interested in: A man driven to do an extraordinary thing with a little ambition and a lot of madness.

I still think The Fountain has a lot of value and a more compromising director’s cut needs to be made. Just have Tommy’s character writing down the “space” section in his death wife’s book and everyone will get the movie. Asking an audience to work a little bit to “get” a movie is one thing, asking them pump iron and run marathons is another.  Noah will be a good movie, but if Aronofsky does what he is best at, defying convention and being esoteric, the movie might now work. And seriously, what’s up with his mustache?
