Donnie Darko director going mainstream?

I hate reading other people’s blogs because theres never anything important said on them. I like blogging, however, so such evils are sometimes necessary. That said, this really is non news, but I’m gonna’ write about it anyway. The news: Richard Kelly is making a new movie.

My bro’ and I fell in love with the guy’s style when he debuted with one of the oddest movies we’d ever seen at the time, Donnie Darko. Devon, my bro’, loved Southland Tales and didn’t hate the The Box, or whatever the fuck his newest film was called. I’ve never been a gigantic fan. It wasn’t until the director’s cut of Donnie Darko came out that I actually enjoyed the movie, instead of just admiring its weirdness.

By the way, if you haven’t seen Southland Tales. It is fucking weird. Hold on, let me see if its over on Netflix Streaming.

Nope. Only Donnie Darko. Fuck that shit. The fact its not on there, not double D. Morever, my brother’s criticism of people who hate on Kelly is a sound one. Everyone complains about the cliches of Hollywood, but then bitches when a director tries something truly original. I totally agree, but I’m glad to hear Kelly is going a little mainstream on our asses.

Variety says he’s going normie and making a movie called Corpus Christi described as “Texas-set story concerns a mentally unstable Iraq war veteran, who forges a strange friendship with his boss, a wealthy and politically ambitious owner of a supermarket chain.” Cool.

And for those who are expecting a traditional story, even with promises it will be normal, should expect something pretty usual. But that is just my opinion. Also, on an absolutely separate side note, Kelly is part of a new group of directors in their thirties and forties that choose not to be disgusting fat messes. A school of thought that Eli Roth, Bryan Singer, Zach Snyder, Edgar Wright, and Robert Rodriguez all belong to.
