The Film: About a Boy

A light, dramatic comedy starring Hugh Grant? Sound rough? Well, it isn’t. It is, in fact, a brilliant dramedy about a men, their egos, and where family and women fit into this dynamic.

It follows Will Freeman who has lived his whole life off royalities from a song his father wrote. Purposefully cut-off from the rest of the world, he decides to start dating single-mothers so he can break up with them easier.  Cool.

Why to watch it: Nicholas Hoult

What an amazing performance by a child actor. Fuck Haley Joel Osmont, this is one of the best child performances I’ve ever seen. Making a kid who could have been doe-eyed and bathetic, into a precocious, humorous, “good kid” who deserves to be loved.

Pay attention to this: Visual imagery

Visual imagery? In a rom-com? I should go fuck myself?

Really! There is good stuff in there. Poetic, visual compositions get my dick hard. An easy one to pick out is when Will, wearing camoflage, is walking against hundreds of men and women in business suits. Cool. There are a bunch in there, keep an eye on them.

Watch this right now when you get home from work or school or whatever it is you’re doing….you should be watching this instead. And if you don’t have Netflix streaming….buy it. It costs the same as a shot and a beer at your local bar!
