Park Chan-Wook’s weird Iphone experiment
According to this site Park Chan-Wook, a director I write about once and a while, recently made a 30 minute short that costs a staggering 130 gs with his freakin’ Iphone.
I legitimately think that this is dumb. Not the exercise of minimalism by using an Iphone, but the lack of minimalism by having such a huge budget. Also, shorts are often pretty dumb anyway. I imagine because Chan-Wook is a genius there will be quite a bit of artistic integrity, but I fear that it is not only a gimmick, but some kind of commercial tie-in.
It is unlikely, but any other explanation is difficult to understand. Why not use a cheap prosumer camera instead? Or something of that nature? My old teachers at Bing are probably creaming their jeans at the notion of this experiment…but not me.
I don’t get it. I doubt foreigners will get a chance to see the movie anytime soon. I’m excited to see it, but only in the most pessimistic way.
